On Friday, June 10th we drove down Hwy 285 just past Salida, to the KOA we stayed at overnight. Evie had fun in the pool and at the park there, and we went on the hayride that evening. During the hayride we got a close-up of some wild long-horn sheep!
On the next day we drove through Salida (which wasn't very exciting) and were on our way to Ouray. The drive was beautiful: we went through a couple of mountain passes including Monarch Pass where there was still about a foot of snow! After about 3 hours we made it to Ouray and were in awe. It's my new favorite town in Colorado! It's GORGEOUS. These amazing snow-capped mountains surround the entire little town consisting of one main street with a bunch of shops and restaurants.

On Sunday we drove about an hour down to Telluride. The drive was gorgeous, of course, and Telluride was beautiful as well. There we saw a big waterfall from afar, and rode up the gondola to the top of the ski slopes. Evie had a great time being up so high.

Telluride: the falls at the far end of town.
That afternoon we drove back to Ouray and hiked to Box Canyon Falls. Because of the mountain run-off, it was gushing SUPER hard. Pretty amazing to see and to be so close to the falls. That evening we had fun in the hot springs pool which was just down the street from our motel.

Monday morning we packed up and drove back through Salida on our way to Canyon City. There we saw the Royal Gorge Bridge from the top. Pretty crazy bridge!
The next morning we rode the Royal Gorge Train, through the canyon and underneath the Bridge. Evie had a good time on the train, of course.

We had a great time on our little vacation and I'm SO glad we had a chance to see Ouray. If we had to do it over again I'd skip Salida and Canyon City and spend more time Ouray. But we'll go back there someday for sure!!
